The NOPD arrested today (November 22, 2021) three suspected minors as part of an investigation into an armed robbery that occurred today at the intersection of Freret and Soniat streets.
At approximately 12:55 p.m., officers from the NOPD Second District responded to a call for an armed car theft at the scene. During the investigation, officers learned that the victim had his black Mazda vehicle stolen at gunpoint by three unknown black men. The subjects reportedly fled in the victim’s vehicle, followed by a white Volvo SUV that was reported stolen in an armed robbery incident in the Sixth District reported the day before.
Shortly after the incident, officers located the two reported stolen vehicles at a location on Apricot Street. At that point, the suspects fled in the white Volvo SUV. With the suspects wanted for the commission of a violent crime, a vehicle chase was requested by officers and approved by rank.
The chase ended shortly after 2:00 p.m. at the intersection of Canal and South Salcedo streets, where the suspects exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officers apprehended the suspects shortly after. Officers also recovered a gun allegedly involved in the incident.
Although no injuries were reported, the suspects were taken to a local hospital as a precaution following the vehicle crashing into a tree. Upon discharge from hospital, the suspects will be held at the Juvenile Justice Center on charges relating to the two armed hijackings and the chase.
Anyone with additional information on this incident is urged to call the NOPD Second District detectives at 504-658-6020.
