Microsoft Announces Clarity – Free Website Analysis

Microsoft has announced a free GDPR-compliant user behavior analysis tool. Analytics tools help publishers understand how site visitors are using a site and identify areas for improvement, including fun name reports.click of rage“metric.

Analytics that won’t slow down websites

Microsoft Clarity is a free analytics tool that provides information about how users interact with a site. Engagement metrics, website performance data, and debugging information provide insight into how to improve web pages.

Surprisingly, there are no traffic caps. Even a site with a million visitors per day can use it. In addition, it would be optimized so as not to slow down the sites.

“Clarity is designed to have a very low impact on page load times, so you can ensure that users browsing your site don’t have to wait for pages to load.

Plus, we don’t place any limits on your traffic, so whether you get 10 visitors per day or 1,000,000, Clarity will be able to handle your traffic at no additional cost to you.

Analytics with privacy features

Clarity is also focused on privacy, which will help publishers get actionable data without violating the privacy of their site visitors.

According to Microsoft:

“We are GDPR compliant as a data controller for visitors to our site and a processor for the data collected by the Clarity script on your site. “

Main features of Microsoft Clarity

The Clarity analysis tool is grouped into three first-level functionalities:

  • Session readings
  • Heat maps
  • Information dashboard

Session reading

The session playback screen allows editors to replay visits to the site visitors’ page, see where their cursor clicked, where they scrolled and stopped, and any subsequent clicks they made on other pages.

The middle section of this panel is where the session timeline appears, showing a movie of the webpage that was visited and what elements on the page interacted with.

The session timeline, shown in the screenshot above, looks like a movie of the user interacting with a page. Cursor movements are displayed.

The session panel on the left allows an editor to filter data to isolate a wide range of data types.

The individual sessions seen in the boxes can be selected and viewed. In addition, one can click the Filters button at the top to select a large amount of data types, like user device, etc.

By clicking on the Filters button, you get an entire web page of filters. To save space and provide a close-up, I cut the filters page in half, a left side and a right side.

Clarity heat map

A heat map is an analytics feature that shows where a site visitor has clicked. This is useful because it shows what page elements are clicked on and can indicate how far away on a page most users are and why.

For example, if the majority of clicks occur closer to the top of the page than the bottom of the page, that means people are bailing out and because of the heat map, you can see why some of them they leave the page. Clicks closer to the end of an article means a very engaged reader.

Clarity’s heat map will offer a metrics scrolling option in the near future.

Scrolling is especially important for mobiles because it can help you understand engagement in a dimension similar to downtime, but without the element of time.

The Insights dashboard provides insights into performance and user behavior metrics.

Here’s how Microsoft describes it:

“We provide a dashboard of aggregated metrics to help you get a holistic understanding of your site traffic. At a glance, you will be able to see how many users clicked on nonexistent links or how many people scrolled up and down a page looking for something they couldn’t easily find. .

You can also see things like the number of concurrent JavaScript errors that occur on your customers or the amount of time the average user spends browsing your site.

There are also filters to help zoom in on specific data.
